Forecasting Media Lead Times

Writer's picture: ATEC/IndirexATEC/Indirex

We always get a lot of questions about forecasting media lead times so we thought we would help share some of what we see through the year in media replacement. This year evaporative cooling media has been in extremely high demand and lead times on some items has been longer than usual. We thought we would take a minute to give more information on why lead times have been up and information on forecasting for future planned projects. First off, let us express that lead times are always changing, sometimes within the day. We have noticed that they not only change based on material but also on time of year:

Cellulose material

(Munters CELdek, Munters CELdek 5090, and Kuul Control 5mm and 7mm):

For Cellulose materials our busiest time is of course summer. The “summer” season usually kicks off around late March/early April and starts to slow down a bit around late August/September. This summer has been one of the busiest with regard to media demand. We are seeing more and more industries turning to the efficiency and energy saving benefits of evaporative cooling and, demand is increasing. We work very hard to try and keep ahead by increasing stock and keeping media moving in continuously.

We encourage customers to, if they can, check for replacement in fall winter for cellulose media and get replacement orders in early. We have a number of customers that order early and have us hold orders till they need them on site for install.

Fiberglass materials

(Munters GLASdek and Kuul FirePro):

For fiberglass media, our busy season is usually about September-March (fall and winter), if we ever talk about replacement season, these are the months we are referring to. During this replacement season we see a number of industries using this time to install/replace fiberglass media in preparation for the hot months. This is usually when we get our larger quantity requests which usually will impact lead times for fiberglass media. We are seeing a lot of quote requests coming in for fiberglass media already, so we anticipate this to be a busy replacement season. Just like with cellulose media, we try hard to keep ahead by stocking extra of the standard sizes and keeping trucks coming but it is hard to know as every year is different.

We thank you for your continued support as we work to help you and your customers to have a cool day! We hope this helps you have an idea of how we forecast and what materials are impacted at different times. As always feel free to reach out with any questions you may have about lead times and quoting!

Have a cool day!
